Our name takes inspiration from the word “Sankofa”: from the Twi language of Ghana "Go back and get it"; we must look back to the past so that we may understand how we became what we are, and move forward to a better future.

2019–2024

Deployed first pilot smart mini-grids in rural Ghana and Nigeria, integrating solar + storage and productive-use appliances (e.g., milling machines, solar cold rooms) to test economic uplift potential.

2025s

Secured seed funding from EU impact investors and African venture funds, validating the “energy ladder” model focused on income generation, not just basic electrification
Scaled to 50+ mini-grids serving 300K people; launched “Bridge to Zero” initiative phasing out diesel generators in Nigerian health clinics via solar-hybrid systems.
